We will take the long road around to discuss 1 John 3:4
--Remember we have been talking about our new birth (1 John 2:29-3:3)

Some Questions & Answers about the New Birth
Why do we need it?
Because we have been contaminated by sin, therefore death. Gen.2:17 / Rom. 5:12-14 / Sin is powerful (Rom. 5:17=death reigned through one sin)

How are we born again?
Through belief / no power of our own-John 1:12-13

What happens when we are born again?
Old Spirit dies=Rom. 6:3-4a
We are given new life Rom.6:4b / (Titus 3:5)
We are freed from sin Rom.6:11
We are separated from the world Gal. 6:13-15 (not by our own work)
Born of His seed=1 John 3:9 / 1 Peter 1:23
We are united with the Holy Spirit Rom. 8:16

So why do I struggle?
The flesh and Spirit are at odds--Gal. 5:17-22 / Rom.7:5-6, 7:14-25

READ 1 John 3:4~The truth is, it is my flesh that practices sin!
Sin does not agree with our new birth.
Sin does not agree with our purity.
Sin does not agree with Christ work~1 Jn. 3:5

So~How can I have victory?
Gal. 5:16-25
Vs.16=walk by the Spirit
Vs.18=Be led by the Spirit
Vs.24=acknowledge that the flesh has no right to rule
Vs.25=Live (spend ones existence/pass ones life “biography”) by the Spirit
II Cor 4:6-12~Deliver yourself over to death (be willing to die)

Vs.6=We have been given Light where was darkness. ~Acknowledge this specifically!
Vs.7=This treasure is now in an earthly vessel so that God gets the glory not man (vs.5)
Vs.8-9=The crushing of the pots allow the Light to shine (Judges 7:20) die to flesh=Light
Vs.10=Making the work of Christ a constant reality in our life=Jesus real in our body
Vs.11=What fleshly thing are you willing to deliver over to death so that Christ may be manifest in our flesh?
